African Wildlife

Stella and Leo have been keeping track of the critters and birds they’ve seen in Zambia and Botswana. They especially wanted to share this with their friend Jasper, our resident naturalist back home in Frederick. Large Mammals and other critters Zebra, Impala, Waterbuck, Red Lechwe, Hippopotamus, Crocodile, Jackal, Elephant, Banded mongoose, Baboon, Vervet monkey, White Rhinoceros, Cape Buffalo, Scrub hare, Kudu, Warthog, Giraffe, Spitting cobra, Monitor lizard, Gecko, Skenk lizard, Dung beetle, Chameleon, Tree frog, Toad(s) Birds Trumpeter Hornbill, Ostrich, Yellow-billed Hornbill, Spotted Eagle Owl, Blacksmith Lapwing, Coqui Francolin, African Hawk Eagle, White backed Vulture, African Fish Eagle, Black Kite, White-faced Duck, Egyptian Goose, Wooly-necked Stork, Hadeda Ibis, African Darter, Little Egret, Brown-headed Kingfisher, Pied Kingfisher, White-fronted Bee-eater, Pied Crow, Village Weaver, Masked Weaver, Magpie Shrike, Jamesons Firefinch, Laughing Dove, African Paradise Flycatcher.

Mosi Oa Tunya

The ‘Smoke that Thunders’.  Victoria Falls in the local language, very fitting name that describes this natural wonder which rivals places such as the Grand Canyon.  A few images below of our weekend hike to the falls.  MOSI happens also to be the name of the most popular local beer, the ’budweiser’ of Zambia.  and Mosi is a likely choice name for our next kitten, as the majority of our kids and pets are named after beers.  cheers, the Hensons
